IT & SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT IN INDIA




India finds a prominent position in the global arena owing to its activity of IT and software development. The rapid growth in this sector has not only brought national pride but has also established reputation in the world. Today, Indian software industry is one of the major service providers in the world due to the presence manpower skills to develop software using new technologies and ideas.

Currently, India’s youth are more inclined to shape a career in this field due to enormous growth opportunities. After successful completion of engineering and MBA courses students are being absorbed by the IT giants.

More than 500 “Fortune 500” companies outsource development work to India's software companies. Sales of India's IT industry for fiscal year 2005 (April 2005 to March 2006) had reached $29.6 billion, a 31.4 percent increase from the year before. This figure is continuously increasing and India is fast becoming “the world's software factory.”

The Government of India has also taken some key initiatives for the development of this sector. The government has set up few software technology parks in several places of the country and is also in a process of establishing more in the near future. The National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) is the apex organization for coordination between the government and the industry.
